It’s time to start howling at the moon, ya’ll! Halloween season is here (as well as birthday month), and what better way to start the month than getting a little bit knotty by reviewing Weredog Ranger dildo.

I mentioned recently that I’ve gone on a bit of a knot dildo kick lately. It started with Wolf Druid, which made me realize just how much I enjoy a knot from time to time. As a vulva having individual, not all knots are made for bodies like mine. Naturally, as a toy reviewer, I set out trying to find other fantasy dildos with knots that work well for vaginal use. Weredog had several options for me to pick from, but something about Ranger just called out to me.

Before I start howling about how this fantasy dildo worked for me, let me start with the basics.

Get to Know Weredog

Originally started as a side hobby by Kara, Weredog’s origins are of very humble beginnings. After switching jobs, moving into a friend’s place, and putting all of their savings into Weredog, Kara managed to pull through and has grown the company to almost 30 full time employees in their Bristol facility. Most of the team are furries, though the team has people of all walks of life and interests working for them.

With such a large team, Weredog (WD) may not quite fit the bill for an “indie” toy company anymore, but they’re still dedicated to making products in-house only using platinum cure silicone. Their designs have received nominations from the AltPorn Awards, though Roman from WD finds it plenty rewarding to hear from customers about how much they love their toys and the pleasure they bring.

Weredog’s line-up includes 13 penetrables, 1 butt plug, 15 dildos, a paw, and a sheath, though Roman shared that there are further designs coming in the future, inspired by ideas the team finds hot and alluring. Their pours are always being refined and pioneered, with some of the artist experiments showing up in the regular inventory drops. WD’s crisp fine lines between colors on their line of penetrables are no easy task, but they sure do help the toys stand out!

When shopping Weredog’s site, there are two options available: customize your toy or shop the available inventory. Inventory drops tend to include some unique pours as well as some of the standard or signature pours for each model. Customizing your own toy comes with a few coloration options, such as Signature color or Natural color, or you can pick a solid color or two colors for a swirl. I’d love to see more pour styles available from Weredog, but I imagine with a team that large, it can be a huge undertaking.

Specs and Details of Weredog Ranger Fantasy Dildo

With a classic canine shape, Weredog’s Ranger fantasy dildo design is simplistic: a slim tip that quickly widens into a swelling shaft with vein texture, before a thick, dramatic knot. Below the knot is a short length of shaft before hitting the base with a wide, anal safe base. The vein texture that runs along the knot and the shaft is low profile and minimalistic in quantity.

With 5 sizes available, small-XXL, Ranger is available for purchase from available inventory or as a custom. Weredog offers 3 firmness levels and basic coloration customizations: 4 coloration MTOs, your choice of solid color, or a 2 color swirl. I opted for a size medium in soft (00-30) firmness in the Moonlight coloration. The size medium has the following dimensions:

  • Total length: 8.1″ / 20.5cm
  • Insertable length: 6.7″ / 17cm
  • Head circumference: 4.1″ / 10.5cm
  • Knot circumference: 7.5″ / 19cm
  • Knot diameter: 2.4″ / 6cm
  • Shaft circumference: 5.5″ / 14cm
  • O-ring size: 2.5″ / 6.35cm

Caring for Your Weredog Ranger Knot Dildo

Cleaning your sex toys is important both before and after each use, especially if they’re going inside of you. Silicone is non-porous, however it also has some static to it that causes hair, dust, fur, lint, and even pathogens to stick to the surface of toys. Cleaning silicone is easy, and Weredog’s Ranger dildo doesn’t have enough texture to warrant any extra special cleaning. All you need is warm water and an unscented soap that does not contain silicone (check the ingredients list for anything ending in “-cone”). Rinse the dildo, lather it up with soap, making sure to carefully run a finger around the nubs at the tip, then rinse again thoroughly.

There are cases when a deeper clean is necessary: sharing toys with a non-fluid bound partner or friend, moving a toy from anal to vaginal use, you show symptoms of an infection, or before selling toys on the secondhand market. The great news is that silicone is heat resistant, which means it’s very easy to disinfect, sterilize, or sanitize!

  • boil in water for up to 10 minutes, using tongs to place the toy into the water and stir to avoid the toy resting against the sides or base of the pot.
  • soak in a 10% bleach, 90% water mixture for up to 10 minutes then rinse thoroughly with hot water
  • wipe down with a lint-free cloth soaked in isopropyl alcohol, then rinse thoroughly with hot water
  • bake in a preheated oven set to 350F / 180C on a lined baking tray for 10 minutes
  • run through your dishwasher’s Sanitize cycle without detergent and without any dirty dishes

Cleaning is important for maintaining the integrity of your sex toys, but it’s not the only part! Make sure you only use water-based lubes with the dildo, and store it properly after it’s dried. To store the dildo, you can use the included storage pouch, or display on a shelf. Just make sure the silicone dildo isn’t touching toys made with porous materials, such as latex, TPE, PVC, jelly, silicone blends, etc. With proper care, platinum cure silicone sex toys can last for years!

My Experiences with Weredog Ranger Knot Dildo

When I first reached out to Weredog to see if they were open to reviews, I knew I wanted to try one of their five knot dildos. I’ve been jonesing for knots and they have some really impressive options. My decision came down to Gideon vs Ranger. Ranger seemed like the more popular model between the two, and I do occasionally let popularity help make decisions for products to review. It’s popular for a reason, right? I wanted to find out for myself!

Weredog was kind enough to send me several models, and after posting pictures online asking which I should review first, my followers voted the Ranger should come first on my review queue. Ranger is also the only model I got in the care package in Weredog’s soft firmness (00-30). I find that knotted dildos are much more comfortable in soft, especially when the knot is dramatic like Ranger’s.

The softness of the 00-30 silicone made the vein texture on Ranger virtually undetectable to me during use. I could feel the stretch of the shaft before making it to the knot, comfortably filling me up as I used the shaft to warm my body up prior to knotting myself. The shaft’s maximum circumference is well within my range and it was the knot that I was most worried about taking. Ranger’s knot sits outside of my maximum comfort size, but I didn’t pick the model for the potential comfort. I picked it for the knot!

Preparing to take the knot took time, every time. It’s the largest knot I’ve ever attempted, after all! Warm-up is essential when pushing my body to take bigger, thicker dildos, and as someone who has no problem edging for hours, I knew I’d get there with Ranger. Stretching as part of my warming up was a must if I hoped to fully insert, or tie, the knot.

The first couple times I tried knotting myself with Ranger, I failed by not giving myself as much time warming up! I’ve come to realize that dramatic knots require my body to have a higher level of arousal than dildos with less intense features (ie, Dildolls and other “basic” shapes). Sometimes, my mind is far more aroused than my body, a potential symptom of medications and/or aging. Luckily, Ranger has a nice shaft above the knot, and it feels nice just using that part of the dildo as either a warm up for the knot or as the main event.

My best efforts to knot myself were continually met with resistance… Until the first time my wife used the dildo on me. Cassie is a knot enjoyer herself and a bit of a pro when it comes to stretching. I told her I wanted to try taking the knot but that I’d need warm-up first. Starting slowly, Cassie eventually worked the knot into me and well before the end of our play time that night, Ranger was fully inserted inside me and I was writhing against my wife’s face as she firmly held the dildo in place.

After that, knotting Ranger still took time for my body to warm up, but it was no longer meeting the same level of resistance when working in the knot. I did worry that my grip issues or tendinitis were causes for why I wasn’t able to knot myself, and I’m not entirely ruling those out. However, I have used both hands to fully knot myself since then, so I believe there was a bit of “mind over matter” holding me back.

Most of the time, though, I’m not using my hands for anything more than inserting the dildo. The base is wide enough that it fits comfortably between my thighs so I can hold the dildo in place that way. If I want more inserted, I can spread my legs slightly, push with a hand, then bring my legs back together and start to wiggle more of the dildo into me. It sounds silly, but I found that it works well for me. Sometimes I don’t even need my hand to push it in further, as I’ve learned how to use my thighs to do that for me.

As a vaginal user, Ranger’s knot is perhaps lower on the shaft than is ideal for some. I really enjoy depth play, though, and at the right angle, I can enjoy both depth and stretch when using the fantasy dildo. The shaft length below the knot isn’t quite enough for a lot of thrusting, but it did assist in giving me that sense of “locked in” that I enjoy with knots. I’m learning that knot dildos are better for locking in vaginally if they have a bit of length below the knot. It’s not quite enough to do much thrusting, but it’s enough that it can sit at my entrance as I cockwarm the knot.

I was quite excited to try the fantasy dildo from Weredog on my fuck machine, only to face a challenge I hadn’t expected. The dildo was maybe too soft?! At low speeds on the sex machine, the upper half of the shaft would uncomfortably pop out of me rather than the knot going in, even when I’d warmed up and taken the knot fully prior to using the machine. I believe that the double-sided suction cup acting as a bit of a “hinge” and using a spring extender on the machine gave the dildo too much extra movement.

Riding Weredog’s Ranger fantasy dildo was the easiest way for me to take the knot on my own. I recently purchased a small riding chair, which allowed me to put the dildo onto the suction cup base under the chair. The silicone ended up sticking to the base on its own, without the need of a double-sided suction cup. I found it necessary to have warmed up to the knot first, as once I sat down on the chair, the stretchy material didn’t allow me to slowly sink down onto the knot. Once my weight was on the elastic straps, the gravity pushed me down all the way onto the knot. If you’ve got a riding chair that you plan to use with Ranger, I recommend warming up and stretching prior to avoid tearing.

I did not try Ranger in a strap-on harness nor anally. If either of these things changes, I’ll update this review accordingly!

Pros:

  • available in 5 sizes, 3 firmnesses, 4 preselected colorations, or as a 1 or 2 color custom
  • bulbous knot design feels incredibly filling
  • short shaft length beneath the knot allows it to “lock in” during vaginal use
  • easy to insert
  • upper shaft swell is helpful for warming up prior to tying the knot
  • very easy to clean
  • anal safe
  • o-ring harness compatible

Cons:

  • slightly longer shaft length beneath the knot might allow for better vaginal knot fucking
  • only one pour style option for 2 color customizations (swirl)
  • the 00-30 soft silicone was too soft for using a fuck machine for knot fucking

My Final Thoughts on Weredog Ranger

Though I myself am not a furry, it’s easy to see why furries flock to Weredog for their fantasy dildos. Ranger is a fun toy for knotting, and I appreciate that I can use the top part of the shaft for warming up prior to taking the knot. The shaft length beneath the knot is just long enough that it worked well for full insertion to the hilt, though not quite long enough for much internal thrusting. The Moonlight pour is a gorgeous fade, and I love seeing it offered on several different toys. I’ve really enjoyed testing Ranger, even when things didn’t always go as hoped.

Ranger’s knot is a pretty thick one, with 2″ / 50mm of extra girth compared to the shaft’s girth. I would recommend it for people who like dramatic knots, though I’d shy away from recommending it as a first-time knot dildo for someone new to knots. The shaft is smooth enough that those who are not fans of texture can still enjoy this one, though!
