Wyverns Vault Obscura Fantasy Dildo Review   New!

After swooning over Veld, I broke my own rule: buy from different indie to shop(s) each month. I bought another model from Wyverns Vault, Obscura. Despite my best efforts to distribute purchases to different shops, they just got me with a cute pour on a toy I’d had my eyes on. I just couldn’t resist. And now that I’ve had ample time for testing, I have zero regrets.

I’m glad I didn’t wait for the same pour on a size small instead, because the size mini lines up so perfectly with my anatomy that it feels like it was designed for me.

Get to Know Obscura by Wyverns Vault

Obscura from Wyverns Vault is a heavily textured dildo with a half knot and curved shaft. The head features small rounded spikes and a prominent ridge on the top of the shaft. Below the ridge are small, low profile oval bumps before the half knot. There is a small amount of length below the half knot, leading to the base where there are two antennae sticking up for potential external stimulation. The texture on the underside of the shaft is smooth, vertical ridges with a thick rounded, squiggly ridge running up both sides of the shaft. Inspired by molluscks, Obscura is a collaboration with artist Speggaroo.

Wyverns Vault offers 4 sizes of Obscura: mini, small, medium, and large. Currently, the only way to get Obscura, or any model from Wyverns Vault, is their monthly drops. It’s been a while since I’ve seen them offering MTOs, and I’m not sure if they’ll return anytime soon. Luckily, Obscura seems like a popular model, as their tend to be several in different sizes and firmnesses in each drop.

I got a size Mini in 00-50 firmness, which has a decent amount of squish to it, while still allowing me to appreciate the textures of the design. The Mini Obscura has the following dimensions:

• Total length: 5″ / 12.7cm
• Usable length: 4″ / 10.16cm
• Maximum circumference: 5″ / 12.7cm
• Minimum circumference: 4″ / 10.16cm
• O-ring size: 1.75″ / 4.445cm

How to Clean and Care for Obscura by Wyverns Vault

Platinum cure silicone sex toys, like those made by Wyverns Vault, are very easy to clean. Rinse with warm water, lather up the dildo with your favorite unscented soap that does not contain silicone, and rinse again. You should do this both before and after each use of any sex toy that’s going inside of your body, but especially with silicone since it’s got static electricity that causes hair, dust, lint, fur, etc to cling to the surface.

Since platinum cure silicone is non-porous and heat resistant, it is easy to sanitize or sterilize. This comes in handy if you’ve recently shown symptoms of an infection, if you’re moving a toy from anal use to vaginal use, buying or selling a toy on the 2nd hand market, or sharing a toy with a new partner. To give your silicone a deeper clean, you can choose one of the following:

• bake it on a lined baking sheet, in a pre-heated oven set to 350F / 180C for 10 minutes
• boil it in a pot of water, using tongs to make sure it’s not resting against the sides or bottom of the pot
• run it through the dishwasher, but don’t use detergent and don’t run dirty dishes with it
• give it a bleach bath in a 10% bleach/90% water mixture, then rinse thoroughly with hot water
• soak a lint-free cloth in isopropyl alcohol and gently wipe it down, then rinse thoroughly with hot water

Silicone is a fairly durable material, but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to damage it. Don’t bite or scratch your silicone sex toys. Don’t store your platinum cure silicone toys with toys made from other materials, such as TPE, latex, or other porous materials.

My Experiences with Wyverns Vault Obscura

After enjoying Veld so much, I knew I wanted to add another toy from Wyverns Vault to my collection. Obscura came recommended, and I really liked the curve, vertical texture, and the half knot, so when I finally saw one in a pour I liked and a firmness that works for me, I snagged one.

My hope for Obscura was similar to Veld: give me a delicious feeling of fullness, particularly for cockwarming, with one little difference: I wanted that “locked in” feeling that knots provide. Obscura’s half knot did give me some of that sensation, but not a fully locked in feeling. With the dildo fully inserted, I still needed to use my thighs to help keep it in place. I didn’t want to rely on my thighs, but the knot is only on the topside of the shaft. I think if the knot protruded a bit more on the underside of the shaft, it would have provided more of the locked in feeling.

Even though I didn’t achieve the locked in feeling with the fantasy dildo from Wyverns Vault, Obscura still worked wonders for putting consistent pressure on my g-spot while cockwarming the dildo. Perhaps even a little too well! I repeatedly attempted long, drawn out sessions with Obscura inserted vaginally while using a vibrator on my anatomy externally, only to achieve orgasm in a matter of minutes.

I’m not complaining, of course. I was simply surprised at how quickly my body responded to the pressure from the fantasy dildo hitting my g-spot. The consistent pressure really worked well for me, and even though I orgasmed so early into my sessions, I continued on, experiencing multiple orgasms rather than building up to one big one.

My primary use of Obscura was for cockwarming during solo time, as pumping it into myself wasn’t a very comfortable experience. The base size and shape are a little too small and narrow for me to grip comfortably at the angle needed to thrust it into myself by hand. Obscura’s total length is quite short, so there’s no extra length to help with reaching either. Thankfully, the mini double-sided suction cup from SquidlyCo fit the base and I was able to use my ergonomic handle when I wanted to enjoy a thrusting sensation.

The thing is, I didn’t buy Obscura for thrusting. I bought for the cockwarming potential. Thrusting it into myself wasn’t its intended purpose during solo play. When I was on my own, I just wanted to insert it and leave it be while using a vibrator externally and maybe rocking my hips up and down.

When I had my wife test the dildo on me, I preferred having her do short but deep strokes rather than long strokes. Even better was having her just tap the base continously and steadily. Just the little bit of movement was enough to have me grabbing the sheets and moaning, doubly so if she was going down on me at the same time. The fantasy dildo gave me a feeling of fullness that worked really well with micro-movements that allowed me to feel a bit of the texture more.

Obscura’s design in the size mini feels like it was made for blended orgasms, because every way I tried it helped me to that point quickly and repeatedly. I originally hoped to get a size small, but I have zero remorse over buying a mini. It’s head, curve and half knot are all perfectly placed, and it feels like it was made for me.

Even the heavily textured head, with little spikes on it, is positively stimulating. I was most worried about the texture on the head, because some of it looks a little pointy. In the 00-50, they felt slightly overstimulating when there was any dramatic movement. With my preferred use of cockwarming or having short, deep strokes, the texture was a lot, but never too much. They feel quite squishy, and I imagine that they’d feel even less dramatic in softer shores like 00-30 or NC31.

Because dramatic movement with Obscura was overstimulating to me, I did not ask my wife to test it in her strap-on harness. I don’t think I’d handle the texture of the head very well with a lot of movement, though I do think I’d enjoy feeling the half knot moving inside of me. The dildo is harness compatible though!

Obscura’s antennae on the base may work for some for external stimulation, but they didn’t really do much for me. With the dildo inserted to the hilt, they reached my clitoris just fine and even sat comfortably between my labia. Holding a wand vibrator to the base of the dildo was nice for getting something out of the little antennae, but not enough for me to achieve orgasm.

I also didn’t try riding Obscura. The size mini is just a bit too small for me for riding, especially since the base is also on the small side for me to reach down and hold. I also just don’t think there is enough weight to it for easy riding without pulling up whatever I have it suctioned to with the double-sided suction cup (currently, an upside bowl until I can find a mount that works a bit better for me). I imagine larger sizes would be easier to ride, given higher weights and longer shafts. Shorties like Obscura just tend not to have enough length for me.

Though Obscura is anal safe, I also did not try it anally. The mini size is far too small for Cassie, so I don’t have any anal findings to report back on this dildo. If that changes in the future, I’ll update this review accordingly!

Pros:

• mini size feels like it was made to fit perfectly inside my body and hit my spots
• half knot design is less intense and less intimidating than a full knot
• curved shape is great for g-spot or prostate stimulation
• Wyverns Vault only uses body-safe, hypoallergenic platinum cure silicone
• vertical texture is less intense feeling than horizontal texture
• length below half knot allows for some thrusting
• platinum cure silicone can be properly sanitized/sterilized

Cons:

• textured design is not for everyone
• not the easiest to hold for those with reach or grip issues
• doesn’t quite give the fully locked in sensation I’d hoped for at purchase
• hair, dust, lint, fur, etc cling to the surface of silicone

My Final Thoughts on Wyverns Vault Obscura

I suspected that Obscura would work well for me, but it’s always a nice feeling to test a toy and find that my hypothesis was correct. Wyverns Vault does short toys with thick circumferences really, really well. Though Obscura isn’t thick all over, the half knot is a delight that gives me the feeling of fullness I so desire. I originally thought the mini might be too small for me, but it’s worked out even better than I hoped.

Obscura’s textures are unique and plentiful, so it may not appeal to all users, but it shouldn’t be overlooked. The shape is excellent for g-spot or prostate stimulation, though the maximum circumference is still quite big for a mini size. Your size limitations should be carefully considered if you’re not accustomed to knots or thick girths. For those worried about the texture intensity, I suggest trying 00-20 or 00-30 rather than 00-50.
