After seeing Shunga Erotic Art’s AIKO vibrator at a trade show, I was really interested in the model. The model is a “rabbit ear” style vibrator, a clitoral vibrator with a set of “ears” that go on either side of a clitoris. Each ear vibrates and has a separate contact surface, and one of my favorite types of external vibrator.

Ever since my first luxury vibrator, the JimmyJane Form 2, this style vibrator is one that I continue to return to over and over again. I’ve experienced some clear winners and losers, so I was really looking forward to seeing where Shunga’s option would fall on that spectrum.

Get to Know Shunga Erotic Art’s AIKO Vibrator

Packed with 10 vibration functions, each boasting 5 intensities, Shunga Erotic Art’s AIKO is a luxurious vibrator designed for clitoral stimulation. The device has 2 motors, giving either side of a clitoris, nipple, or penis glans plenty of stimulation. AIKO has two button control, a gentle texture on one side of the device, an ergonomic shape, travel lock, and a light indicator that changes color based on which vibration mode you use. It comes with a user manual, satin storage pouch and charging cord. The ears of the vibrator also have some flexibility, though not quite enough to use as a cock ring.

AIKO is coated in body-safe silicone, making it hypoallergenic and non-porous for easy cleaning and sterilization. There is also non-porous ABS plastic on the middle base part of the vibrator. The clit vibrator is available in 3 colors: raspberry pink, light pink, and black. All three colors have the same diamond shape texture on one side, which is a different texture than the Shunga Sanya that I reviewed previously.

In addition to all of those features, AIKO is also rechargeable and has an IPX7 rating. IPX7 means that the vibrator is safe to use underwater at a maximum depth of 1 meter / 3.29ft, for up to 30 minutes, without damaging the device. Having accidentally waterlogged a vibrator with IPX7 before, I recommend listening closely to the 30 minute maximum.

Charging and Cleaning Shunga AIKO Vibrator

Once your vibrator arrives, it’s important to charge it fully before the first use. It’s pretty typical for a vibrator to arrive with a partial charge to it, and you don’t want your brand new vibrator to run out of juice too quickly into a nice relaxation session! The DC charging port is located on the base of the vibrator, about a centimeter away from the flat base of the ABS plastic, opposite from the two buttons.

Insert the DC charging cord into the vibrator and plug the USB end into a charging block or USB port. Charging should only take about 3 hours the first time you plug it in, then 120 minutes after the first charge. Each charge has an estimated run time of 1-3 hours, depending on the intensity you use. While charging, the indicator light will flash until charging is complete, at which point the light stays on. The indicator light is on the front of the device, just below the brand name on the ABS plastic.

To clean the vibrator, you’ll want to use warm water and an unscented, antibacterial soap that does not contain any silicone (avoid any ingredients that end in -cone). You don’t need a fancy specialty toy cleaner, as regular soap is just fine to use as long as it meets those requirements. If you’re unsure about the soap in your living situation, it’s totally ok to use a specialty toy cleaner but you can also save a bit of money by just grabbing a small bottle of Dial Gold or any other soap that meets those requirements.

If you need to do a deeper clean or to sterilize the vibrator, you should soak it in a 10% bleach, 90% water bath for about 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with hot water. Do not boil or bake the vibrator, as vibrators are not designed to withstand high temperatures!

How to Use Shunga AIKO Clit Vibrator

AIKO has two buttons to control the vibrations of the device. The buttons are located towards the base, just next to the flat, smooth part of the ABS plastic. The button closest to the base will power on/off the vibrator and switch between the vibration modes, while the button furthest from the base controls the intensity of vibrations. After fully charging and cleaning the vibrator, press and hold the button closest to the base for 3 seconds. The indicator light on the front of the vibrator will turn fuchsia, letting you know the device is powered on. Press the same button to switch vibration modes, or press the other button to increase vibration intensity.

To power off the device, press and hold the same power button for 3 seconds.

If you’re traveling and want to put the device in travel lock, press and hold the power button for 8 seconds until you feel 2 vibrations and the indicator light blinks white 4 times. To unlock the travel lock, follow the same steps, however look for a blue flashing light instead of white.

Using water based lubricant, apply lube to your anatomy and/or the ears of the device. Place the ears on either side of your clitoris or nipples, or against the glans of your penis, and then enjoy!

My Experiences with Shunga Erotic Art AIKO Intimate Massager

I’ve been on the hunt for a new rabbit ear style clitoral vibrator for a while, so after I enjoyed testing and reviewing Shunga’s Sanya vibrator, I decided to try out another toy from the Canadian brand. I found AIKO at a ridiculously affordable price (€23) from a Dutch retailer, and quickly added it to my cart in hopes that it would fill the void of vibrator style I miss having in my collection.

Much like Sanya, it’s got luxurious packaging that stands out quite nicely. I can’t say that the packaging is the easiest to wrap, as there’s a lip that runs around the box that you then open up to see the vibrator inside (behind sealed clear plastic). The box is luxurious feeling, and the front displays the texture pattern next to Geisha artwork.

Also like Sanya, the texture on the front of the vibrator can be a bit of a challenge to clean. At this point, I’m fairly certain that I’m just running into dried water spots on the vibrator rather than dried lubricant or fluids. I lather both of the vibrators up pretty damn thoroughly before rinsing, but I always encounter something in the grooves of the texture, even when I use a small, soft toothbrush to help me clean them. On this black vibrator, they stand out even more than they do on the raspberry pink vibrator!

When it came time to use the AIKO clit vibrator, I was quickly hooked. The vibrations traveled through my clitoris exactly as I’d hoped, acting like surround sound to deliver orgasmic vibrations to my anatomy. The vibrations are on the buzzy side, but they’re deep, buzzy vibrations that didn’t give me vibrator fingers when hand holding the device.

Which, I did have to do most of the time. AIKO is not a vibrator I was able to use hands-free most of the time, despite my best attempts. The only exception was if I used the vibrator to lay on, face down. I almost never am in this position when using an external only vibrator, though. When I am in that position, I’m using a dual stimulator of some sort, and rocking my hips up and down. I just couldn’t get AIKO to stay put where I wanted it and feel comfortable and move my hips.

My primary solo use of AIKO was while cockwarming, since I did have to handhold the vibrator. The vibrator is fairly comfortable to hold, either by the base or pressing down on the ears with my fingers. I didn’t experience any hand or wrist pain, though I did have some stiffness in my left wrist, where I’m dealing with some tendinitis.

Testing the vibrator solo was really pleasurable for me, though I did also have to hold the vibrator sideways. The ears are a bit on the thick side, and I’ve got meaty labia and a buried clitoris, so holding the vibrator with an ear on either side of my clitoris was uncomfortable unless I had myself spread wide open. That’s a position I do really enjoy, however I rely heavily on my thighs to keep toys inserted while cockwarming, so I wasn’t able to get the vibrator into the proper position comfortably. Even just using one ear against my anatomy felt fantastic, though I had to use higher intensity settings than I did when I was spread wide open.

When I was able to be in a position where my clit was easier to access, I was using AIKO while receiving penetration from a partner. I think my brain about exploded when I held the vibrator in the correct position while I was in mating press as my boyfriend penetrated me anally. The upward angle of him standing, me looking like a chubby pretzel, and the vibrator against my clitoris meant fantastic blended g-spot and clitoral orgasms that left me speechless.

In a similar position, though with a dildo inserted vaginally instead, I also enjoyed a period of rolling orgasms that then sent me to space. Having the ability to use the vibrator as intended, with an ear on each the left and right side of my clitoris, was exactly what I’d hoped for. It’s exactly what I wanted out of a rabbit ear vibrator.

Shunga Erotic Art’s AIKO is, for me, a great vibrator for using with a partner specifically. Using it during solo play with the ears on top of my clitoris was very pleasurable, but I wouldn’t say that my brain melted quite the same way. I like it enough that I’ve packed it in my overnight bag several times to bring to my boyfriend’s place, with only Oly 2 and Melody making the cut for multiple trips to his house.

Pros:

  • good vibrations that aren’t too buzzy
  • luxurious packaging, look and feel
  • made with body-safe materials (silicone and non-porous ABS plastic)
  • great for partner PIA or PIV sex
  • can be used externally on the nipples or head of penis
  • 5 vibration intensities on each of the 10 vibration modes
  • waterproof submersible

Cons:

  • accumulates dried water in the texture
  • ears are too wide to comfortably reach my buried clit during solo use
  • not carried by any of my recommended retailers
  • I wasn’t able to use the vibrator hands-free

My Final Thoughts on Shunga Erotic Art AIKO Vibrator

AIKO is the second vibrator made by Shunga Erotic Art that I’ve purchased, and I’ve put it to use far beyond Sanya in a shorter period of time. I like the intensity levels of the vibrations, I find the sex toy pretty comfortable to hold, and I enjoy it most when I can use it while with a partner. Though I have to use it differently during solo play, I still enjoy using AIKO a lot and it’s great to have on hand in case one of my bullet vibes runs out of charge mid-use.

I recommend the vibrator to anyone who likes the rabbit ears clitoral stimulator on a rabbit vibrator and anyone who thinks “surround sound for your clit” sounds enticing. The vibrator is a good one, though it may be a challenge to find at an affordable price. I’ve seen AIKO priced anywhere from €23 on the low end and €120 on the high end, and if I were to have to purchase it again, I wouldn’t want to pay more than €75 for it. It’s a good vibrator, it looks and feels luxurious, but I don’t think it’s worth the same amount as a wand vibrator.

Sadly, none of the online retailers I work with have the brand available for purchase, so I can’t recommend a shop to buy from. I can’t and won’t recommend the shop I purchased it from because they only ship within the Netherlands and they carry products that aren’t body safe.
