Fun Factory Volta Lay-On Vibrator Review   New!

Now that the new Fun Factory toys, manufactured by Satisfyer in China, are starting to hit the shelves in North America, it feels like a great time to go in-depth about one of their vibrators: Volta. Since I shared the news that Fun Factory is back, Volta has become my most frequently used Fun Factory sex toy for both solo and partner play.

I have talked about Volta before as part of my guide to Fun Factory’s return. You do not need to have read that post to understand this one.

Fun Factory Volta Specs & Basics

Volta was designed by Fun Factory as a lay-on clit vibrator with two fluttering tips meant to provide intense, rumbly vibration stimulation to users. With a grooved loop handle, Volta‘s ergonomic handle is made to provide users with easier, comfortable grip. The fluttering tips can stimulate the clitoris, labia, nipples, and penis. The vibrator has 12 vibration modes, including 6 steady speeds and 6 vibration patterns. It’s got a 3 button control system, which I’ll talk about more later in this review.

Made with silicone and body-safe ABS plastic, the Fun Factory Volta vibrator is fully waterproof submersible with an IPX7 rating. It is also rechargeable, now with a USB-C charging port instead of the old magnetic charging port. The newly manufactured sex toys by Fun Factory do not include charging cords, so you’ll want to make sure you’ve got a compatible charging cord at home. Volta is now available in 3 colors: Aquamarine, Black, or Pink.

Cleaning & Charging Instructions for Fun Factory Volta

Thanks to the body safe materials, cleaning this vibrator is quite easy! The hardest part about cleaning the Fun Factory Volta vibrator is cleaning between the two fluttering tips, but you won’t need any extra tools to do the job! All you need is an unscented soap that does not contain silicone and some warm water. Rinse the device, lather it up with soap, making sure to run a pinky finger into the groove between the tips. Then rinse it again and leave the device to dry before storing it.

If you need to do a deeper clean or sterilize the vibrator, you can do so by giving it a bleach bath in a 10% bleach/90% water mixture, or by soaking a lint-free cloth in isopropyl alcohol and wiping it down. After either method, make sure to thoroughly rinse the vibrator with warm water!

Because this is a motorized sex toy, you should not expose the vibrator to any high heat. That means no boiling or baking, and no running it through the dishwasher since motorized sex toys are not designed to withstand high heat.

To charge the Fun Factory Volta, gently open the red cover on the back of the handle. Insert a USB-C cord into the device, with the opposite end of the cord plugged into a charging port. While charging, the lights on the buttons will flash, then go steady once charging is complete. Charging takes about 1.5 hours, providing a run time of about 60 minutes, but I’ve found that this will greatly depend on the intensity used.

How to Use Fun Factory Volta Vibrator

Those familiar with Fun Factory toys may be in for a bit of a surprise with the newly manufactured Volta. Like all of the newly manufactured toys by Fun Factory, the power button for the vibrator is now the middle button on the device (previously, the power button was the bottom button). The power button design has stayed the same: it’s still red with the word “FUN” on it. Press and hold the FUN button for 1-2 seconds to both power on and off the device.

At start-up, Volta is automatically in the 3rd steady intensity. Use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease intensity. Volta’s manual leads me to believe that the – button will start cycling through the vibration patterns, but in actuality, you can only reach the patterns by quickly pressing the + button. Once you enter into the vibration patterns, using the + button will go through them, and a quick press of the – button will take you right back to the highest steady speed.

If you’re using Volta externally, you may be able to get away with not using any lubricant, but personally speaking, I think lube makes the experience better. Fun Factory vibrators should only be used with a water-based or natural, body-safe oil lubricant. Do not use silicone lube with Fun Factory toys!

For internal use, Volta is only safe for vaginal use. No matter how wet you get, lubricant is likely going to make the experience much easier and more pleasurable than skipping the lube.

Positioning wise, Fun Factory Volta may be marketed as a clit vibrator, but don’t let that stop you from exploring with the vibrator. Volta can be used on nipples, clitoris, labia, penis, anus, or even inserted vaginally. It’s not safe for anal insertion, but you can use the tips to stimulate the anus externally. It can be held in place or you can try laying on it (I recommend using a pillow or a wedge to help prop your hips up). You can use it solo or with a partner, which I’ll share my experiences on both next!

My Experiences with Fun Factory Volta Vibrator

Before I go to deep here, I do want to share that Volta is a Fun Factory toy that I purchased. I bought it partially because I was planning my guide to Fun Factory’s return and partially because I was interested in this specific vibrator and wanted to try it out. I’m a big fan of clitoral vibrators, as I like pairing them with internal stimulation, whether from a dildo, vibrator, or a partner.

As I mentioned earlier, Volta has become my Most Used Fun Factory sex toy. I originally planned to do an in-depth review of different Fun Factory toy from my guide instead, but then I kept reaching for Volta over and over again. Not just to test for this review, but because I really like using it.

Prior to testing the Fun Factory Volta, I had hoped that I could comfortably use the vibrator as a “rabbit ears” style vibrator with one fluttering tip on either side of my clitoris. During my testing, I did learn that I could do this, but it wasn’t an ideal position for me. The first problem was that the loop handle isn’t as easy to hold in that position, and as someone dealing with tendinitis in my wrist, I need comfortable positions for holding. The second problem was that the tapping sensation just wasn’t what I was hoping for. I wanted more of the vibration sensation, less of the tapping sensation. It’s a bit of a blend of both, but for me, the tapping was more noticeable this way than in some of the other positions.

Holding Volta against my clitoris as the vibrator was directed parallel to my body was much more comfortable on my wrist and I enjoyed the tapping sensation more with the fluttering tips on top of each other. The tapping is somewhat lessened on my anatomy because of my buried clitoris making it slightly more challenging for the top tip to move quite as much. It was more noticeable to me during PIV or PIA sex, when my legs were spread, naturally opening my anatomy up more.

Speaking of holding Volta, as someone with limited reach due to big belly and short arms, I never felt that I was having to strain my body to reach. The loop handle is comfortable to hold in both my hand with grip issues and my hand with wrist tendinitis (both with and without a wrist brace). Since my tendinitis hit, I’ve noticed a lot more toys leave my wrist feeling stiff or sore if I’m not wearing my brace while holding them. I didn’t experience as much stiffness nor soreness after holding Volta against my anatomy, unless I used the vibrator for an extended period of time.

Using Volta during solo play, I did find the vibrator powerful enough to help me achieve orgasm on its own. I do occasionally get frustrated that the jump between the lowest intensity and the 2nd intensity feels like a big jump when I just want a small increase in power. Because of this, I found myself warming up my anatomy with the LELO NEA 2 before grabbing Volta and jumping straight into the 2nd intensity level. I don’t think I ever needed to use the 4th-6th intensity levels on the vibrator, as the lowest 3 were plenty to help me achieve orgasm.

Though I enjoyed using Volta on its own, I enjoyed it even more when I used it in tandem with another sex toy. Lately, my preferences have leaned heavily towards penetration and external stimulation. During solo play, my primary use with Volta was against my clitoris while cockwarming a dildo or g-spot vibrator. Some toys were better for this than others, and the toys I enjoyed the most when used with Volta were toys designed for some sort of g-spot stimulation. The more pressure on my g-spot, the faster and easier it was for me to achieve orgasm with Volta.

My main position when using Volta was on my back. I did try using it by actually laying on top of it, as the name suggests, but it wasn’t the position for me. It wasn’t the most comfortable to have hard plastic pressing into my pelvic area and lower belly. The position also made it impossible to increase or decrease the vibration intensity without moving. To change the intensity, I’d have to roll onto my side then roll back, hoping that I wouldn’t need to raise my hips up to readjust the handle position. On my back was just easier and required less adjusting.

During PIV or PIA sex, Volta’s fluttering tips were no longer hindered by my meaty labia and fatty mons pubis, so it was almost an entirely different experience for me. As long as my legs were spread open, the fluttering tips against my clitoris gave me far more of the tapping sensation as they hit one another. It was an intensely pleasurable sensation, and one that has me packing Volta in my overnight bag to go see my BF regularly. I prefer to hold it on my anatomy myself, rather than having him hold it on me, as it’s easier for me to keep it exactly where I want it.

A majority of my use of Volta was on myself, however, my wife also got a feel for the Fun Factory’s vibrations. Cassie doesn’t get any sensation from vibrations on the shaft of her penis, however her glans are very, very sensitive. I was able to try using Volta on her with the tips fluttering against her penis, similarly to holding it against my anatomy, as well as having the tips wrapped slightly around her penis. Cassie preferred having the tips wrapped around her penis rather than both pressed against her, which also worked well for giving her oral stimulation that focused solely on the tip of her penis. It was the least comfortable way for me to hold the vibrator on her anatomy, but we found ways to make it work for us.

An anonymous friend with bottom growth shared that the tips of Volta can wrap around their t-dick. They shared that Volta is their favorite and that it was a game changer for them. Using a kind of stroking motion, they felt “super euphoric!”

Pros:

• Dramatic jump from the lowest vibration intensity level to the next
• Handle isn’t as comfortable to hold in some positions
• Doesn’t really work as a rabbit ear style vibe for someone with a buried clit

My Final Thoughts on Fun Factory Volta Vibrator

Though I had concerns about the quality of manufacturing we, as consumers, should expect from the Satisfyer buy-out of Fun Factory, I’m really pleased to share that Volta is holding under my scrutiny. I wasn’t able to source a Volta from prior to the buy-out, so I can’t compare them 1:1. Even though I wasn’t able to make any comparisons, I have to say that I’m a fan of Volta. I enjoy using it solo, especially with some sort of internal stimulation, just as much as I enjoy using it with or on a partner. Volta spends most of its time either in my nightstand or on my sex toy drying shelf after cleaning, both of which are a testament to how much I enjoy the vibrator.

I would recommend Fun Factory Volta to anyone who is looking for a rumbly vibrator that can be used in a wide variety of ways on any anatomy. The lowest vibration setting is gentle enough for those who prefer gentle rumbly vibrations, but the jump to the next lowest setting is pretty dramatic, something to keep in mind if you fall into that category!
