Evil Engineering The Sorceress Dual-Face Cane/Crop Review   New!

Things are about to get a bit more kinky here, my dear readers! Earlier this year, Evil Engineering reached out to me about reviewing some of their impact toys, and I was thrilled at the opportunity. My wife and I both love impact play, her as a bottom and me as a top. Together we looked through their offerings and saw The Sorceress, a dual-faced cane and crop in one. Cassie wasn’t so sure about it, but me? I was giddy with excitement over new toys to use to hit her with (consensually).

Just before Cassie and I moved from the US to the Netherlands, we ended up getting rid of a lot of our BDSM toys, particularly the lower quality stuff that didn’t get a lot of use off-camera. The toys we did bring were special to us, though very few in number. Having the opportunity to not only review some BDSM toys but also rebuild our collection with pieces that looked and sounded high quality was a prospect that excited both of us.

Before I dive deep into The Sorceress and our experiences with the unique spanking toy…

Meet Evil Engineering

Started by Delilah Dire, Evil Engineering is not your average BDSM toy shop. Delilah has ~25 years of experience as a maker, starting from rebuilding an old Jeep, then guitars, effects pedals and tube amps, then mechanical keyboards and impact toys. Her ideas for impact toys started with designing what she believed was “the perfect paddle,” which is now the Hera paddle. The process taught her how to use 3D design software, and lead her down a path of creating high quality 3D printed products using engineering polymers such as polycarbonate, nylon, ABS, and blends like PC-ABS and PC-PBT.

With a fetish for well-built and overbuilt things, Delilah wanted to make implements that she would want to own and use herself, products engineered for sensation, overbuilt for safety, and a far deviation from what people think of when they hear “3D printed.” As the sole maker behind Evil Engineering, Delilah loves a good spanking herself and cares deeply about letting sensations inspire her designs. One of her upcoming designs, The Ophanim, has a unique, weird, “donut on a stick” design that she describes as stingy on one side, thuddy on the other, and with a very unique sound due to the hole in the middle.

Delilah’s dedication to creating unique sensations with high quality materials puts her in a unique position within the impact toy niche. While many makers use wood, leather, rubber, and plastics, Evil Engineering uses thermoplastics in the same classes used for automotive parts, aircraft canopies, and ballistic shields. She’s making impact toys that are designed to last, choosing materials and construction that if a piece is ever overloaded, it absorbs energy instead of failing. Each piece isn’t just 3D printed, it’s engineered for quality and comes with a lifetime-of-the-business warranty, in which she’ll repair or replace a piece if it fails under normal use.

Obsessed with quality, Delilah makes everything to order. She doesn’t believe in faking fast shipping, but if she has the colors and materials in her workshop, most pieces ship within a couple days. She’s got some really unique pieces too, like the Sorceress and hammers. Shopping Evil Engineering has options for simple “Made to Order” pieces or you can reach out on their contact page for custom toys and toy sets.

“If you’ve only ever held cheap 3D-printed stuff, I’d love the chance to change your mind,” said Delilah.

The Basics of The Sorceress by Evil Engineering

Get ready for a cruel impact toy! The Sorceress by Evil Engineering is a dual-face cane/crop made with aerospace-grade carbon-fiber reinforced nylon and ABS plastic. The cane’s shaft and head are carbon-fiber nylon, while the handle is ABS. One side of the crop is smooth, while the opposite face has LEGO-like texture for a different, bite-y sensation. The Sorceress is one of Evil Engineering’s Ultimate tier options, which means it’s made with the best of the materials they offer.

Each of The Sorceress cane/crops is made to order, in your choice of 11 handle colors and either impact-modified polycarbonate or automotive grade ABS. Alternatively, you can order a completely customized version, in which they will match the handle to the head! They were kind enough to customize mine with a matching teal head and handle, which goes well with the black shaft. The Sorceress has the following dimensions:

  • Total length: 21.5″ / 54.5cm
  • Head diameter: 3.75″ / 9.5cm
  • Head height: 0.8″ / 2cm
  • Head texture height: 0.2″ / 0.5cm
  • Shaft length: 11.5″ / 29cm
  • Handle circumference: 3.35″ / 8.5cm

Care Instructions for Evil Engineering BDSM Impact Toys

Caring for BDSM toys is different than my typical care instructions for platinum cure silicone. The impact toys made by Evil Engineering have a different set of standards! Their toys should not be exposed to high heat, anything over over 200F / 90C, so do not boil them, do not bake them, do not put them in the dishwasher, and do not leave them in a car in warm or hot temperatures/climates.

To clean them, all you need is warm soapy water! Easy peasy. Evil Engineering’s Ultimate and Play Party tiers are immune to most solvents and cleansers, and can be sanitized using isopropyl alcohol or a quaternary cleanser. The Sorceress falls under the Ultimate tier, for those keeping track.

Delilah shared that for the glossy parts of toys, if you’d like them to maintain their shine, she recommends Novus plastic polish and cleaner.

My Experiences with The Sorceress Spanking Impact Toy by Evil Engineering

Prior to the care package from Evil Engineering arriving, I was not exactly sure what to expect. Delilah asked me a few questions about intensity preferences and put together a bit of a game plan for what she was going to send. I shared a couple toys that I had interest in and Cassie’s and my favorite colors, and she surprised me with a matching set of toys built specifically for my wife and I to use, test, and review.

The result was exciting to open. The Sorceress and the Schoolmistress are each single color, while the Initiate and Kelleynator hammer blend the two colors together to create a sort of colorshift look. Even just looking at the toys fills me with appreciation of the time and care she put into creating something tailored to our play and personal color preferences.

I’ve seen and held my fair share of cheap feeling 3D printed products, so I had prepared myself for the worst while hoping for the best. I tried to apply enough pressure to the products to break them, only to be met with resistance that was unbendable for me. Then I asked my wife to try bending it since she doesn’t have hand and wrist disabilities that would make it harder to break something. Cassie was able to get a very small amount of bend/give, and I stopped her before she tried to do any damage.

Before using the impact toys on Cassie, I gave myself a few swats with each of them to understand how they feel depending on the amount of force used. I admit that I did cheat by wearing lightweight sweat pants while hitting my ass and thigh, but in my defense, I do not enjoy pain. Both sides of the dual-faced crop on the Sorceress felt thuddy, though the raised texture definitely gave the thuds a lot of bite.

Starting slow, I used each of the four toys on Cassie one night, giving us both the opportunity to experience how they handled. After letting her feel the impact of each toy, I asked her which one she liked or surprised her the most, knowing that it would be easiest for me to review a toy that she wants to use frequently. To my surprise, Cassie pointed at the Sorceress and told me that she liked it the most (though she was most surprised by how much she enjoyed the Schoolmistress).

As our testing went on, Cassie repeatedly wanted me to use the Sorceress spanking toy on her. I’d tell her to grab a toy that she wanted me to use on her, not even specifying that she should choose one of the toys Evil Engineering sent us, and she’d still grab the riding crop/cane to use. It wasn’t always the only toy she’d grab, but it showed up in our rotation every single time after the first. It’s safe to say that of the four toys Evil Engineering sent us, the Sorceress is Cassie’s favorite!

Now, I do want to bring up an important consideration when it comes to picking materials: not all of the materials Delilah uses are safe for play with multiple partners. The impact toys can be cleaned, however, only the Ultimate and Play Party tiers are actually sanitizable for use at play parties, events, or with non-fluid bound partners. Because of this, consider the materials you select carefully. I don’t do a lot of BDSM play with other partners currently, so I was comfortable with getting other tiers and keeping the toys strictly for use with Cassie.

As a top, handling The Sorceress was very comfortable and easy to do a lot of damage with little effort. The crop face isn’t heavily weighted, but it still packs a good amount of thuddy punch to it without exerting a lot of physical energy. Using it on Cassie, it was fairly easy to mark her. I think the textured side made bruising easier to achieve, just due to the nature of raised textures, while the smooth surface took slightly more effort.

The handle itself felt comfortable in my hands, and I consider myself to have small hands. I also have grip issues in my dominant hand, though I never experienced any discomfort or pain in using the impact toy. Using my non-dominant hand, where I have tendinitis in my wrist, also felt comfortable and easy to grip without flaring it up at all. I wasn’t comfortable putting too much force behind using the cane/crop in my non-dominant hand, but was able to use it gently for spanking my wife without experiencing pain flares.

Using the cane/crop during strap-on sex with Cassie was a little challenging, as I’m just not that tall so my limbs aren’t particularly long enough to get a good swing and hit her ass with any sort of meaningful impact. I found that the Sorceress was put to far better use outside of that type of penetrative sex. Using it on her while hand-pumping a dildo into her was a bit easier, specifically if she was in a doggystyle type position while I stood above and around her. I felt a little clunky using it this way while trying to do both, but I like a bit of multi-tasking sometimes.

While spanking my wife with the crop/cane, I found that it was easiest to use the Sorceress primarily as a crop rather than using it as a dual-purpose toy. Some angles and body positions worked for hitting her with just the cane, but I found it more of a challenge and would ultimately just pick up the actual cane Evil Engineering also sent, named the Schoolmistress.

The only thing that I think the Sorceress is maybe missing is means of easily hanging it on a rack, which is a personal preference more than anything. The holes on the head may work, depending on rack configuration and type, but will leave it hanging slightly askew rather than straight down.

Pros:

  • Available as a MTO or complete custom (message them for customizations)
  • High quality materials with a lifetime-of-the-shop warranty
  • Use as a riding crop or cane
  • Dual face gives two different impact sensations
  • Lightweight but sturdy build
  • Easy to clean

Cons:

  • I’d love to see better photos on their site, as the photo’s auto-crop doesn’t show the full tool unless clicked on to expand
  • I’d also love to see a color chart on site
  • No loop or hole on handle for easy hanging
  • It may be challenging to use just the cane part on someone with a large butt

My Final Thoughts on Evil Engineering’s The Sorceress

Whenever I hear “3D Printed,” my inclination is to turn around and walk away, but after spending time putting The Sorceress to work, I’m happy to share that this impact toy is made with sturdy materials. Evil Engineering’s dedication to their craft is easily felt with each swing and each impact. The Sorceress is a welcomed addition to our regular rotation of BDSM toys for both Cassie and I.

If you’re interested in impact toys and you want something built to last, I’d recommend the Sorceress to those who like a good thud, a good bite, and/or a cruel cane.

I received this spanking tool in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and the only consulting I received from Delilah about this review was the care instructions and the interview questions for the brand bio.
