As a fan of dildos that are a bit thicker-in-the-middle of the shaft, I was so excited to review the Shadow Demon by Wandering Bard Toys. That shape is my absolute favorite type of dildo, and whoooooo baby does this one deliver!
Get to Know Wandering Bard Toys
Founded in 2019, The Wandering Bard is a D&D themed fantasy toy company based in the US. With multiple award nominations for their designs, Wandering Bard makes body-safe monster dildos, strokers, grinders, sheathes, dice, and squishes. They have 39 total designs, most of which are available in multiple sizes, and all of which are customizable. Some of their designs are available as either a dildo sheath, such as their Dire wolf and Dragon toys.
Like some of the other indie toy companies I’ve talked about, Wandering Bard Toys offers both custom toys as well as doing inventory drops, which are filled with pours of their choosing. When it comes to customizing toys from Wandering Bard, they have 98 different color options to choose from, including color shifts, UV reactive, heat reactive, glow in the dark, flat and shimmery colors. If the color options alone aren’t enough, you can also select from their variety of pour style options!
One thing that’s really important to note about customs from Wandering Bard is that if you make a mistake while ordering, you only have a 2 hour window to change or cancel your order. After that 2 hour window, they do not accept any changes or cancellations. They also do not accept returns or exchanges.
While I had heard of The Wandering Bard prior to 2024, I can pinpoint the almost the exact moment when I became a fan. I was at the AltPorn Awards in Las Vegas, and they were on stage talking about their love of mutually supporting sex workers. As a sex worker myself, it means a lot to me to hear brands talk about their love of sex workers and how we play a vital role in their success. I made a mental note to make sure I was following them on all of their socials, and kept them on my radar for brands to reach out to.

Meet the Shadow Demon
Available in 5 sizes, Shadow Demon features a rounded tip, a girthy-in-the-middle shaft, with bumps and folds along the shaft. The base is flared, making it harness compatible and safe for anal use. Though there is a decent amount of texture on Shadow Demon, I do want to emphasize that the texture isn’t dramatic – the bumps stand up higher than the folds, though they are still relatively low bumps. The texture is enough to feel it, but not enough to overstimulate quickly.
I opted to get a medium size, medium firmness Shadow Dragon with a marble swirl in the colors copper and cosmic. The medium size measures in at 8″/20.5cm in total height, with 6.75″/17cm of insertable length. The head is the thinnest part of the shaft, measuring in at 5.125″/13cm circumference, then graduates up to 7.375″/18.6cm at the widest point, before narrowing down to 6.125″/15.5cm closest to the base. Reviews of the Shadow Demon on Wandering Bard’s site are also very positive! Rate 4.98 out of 5, this is a really well liked dildo. For me, it was easy to see why. The tip has a sort of coronal ridge that makes it great for g-spot or prostate stimulation, the texture is subtly delicious, and everyone seems to love that girthy shaft just as much as I do!
How to Care for Shadow Demon
According to The Wandering Bard, they recommend that you thoroughly wash your toy before and after use with warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a specialized toy cleaner made for platinum silicone. You can also submerge the toy in boiling water for 5-10 minutes for a deeper clean, but be careful not to touch the toy until it’s completely cooled off.
As with any silicone toy, it’s really important not to store Shadow Demon with non-silicone toys such as PVC or Jelly. They do sell dust bags to make storing easier! It’s also important to keep toys away from sharp objects and you shouldn’t bite, scratch or pick at the toy.
Wandering Bard recommends only using water or oil based lubricants with their products.
My Experiences with Shadow Demon
This is one hell of a girthy toy. I think by far the girthiest toy I’ve taken comfortably and pleasurably, which still comes as a shock to me. I’m going to blame my wife for my gradual transformation into size royalty! It takes me a good amount of warming up before I am able to take Shadow Demon, but once I’m stretched, I love the way this dildo feels!
Dildos that are thicker-in-the-middle are by far my favorite dildo shape, and Shadow Demon is exactly that. The head is the narrowest part of the dildo, but it quickly grows more girthy. I joked with Cassie one day that taking Shadow Demon is the closet toy in our collection to the shape and size of her girldick. That’s likely a significant part of my love for Shadow Demon!
But that’s not the only reason I love this dildo. I tend to get overstimulated fairly easy with fantasy dildos, and I find the texture of Shadow Demon to be comfortable and, believe it or not, smooth. There are bumps and folds, but they aren’t raised very high. You can absolutely still feel the texture, but it’s quite subtle.
After the first time I used Shadow Demon on Cassie, it got her signature seal of approval of “That’s a gooooooood dick!” followed by a double thumbs up. I think it’s safe to say that my wife is also a very happy demon fucker.
When I’m hand-pumping Shadow Demon into Cass, I find the base fairly comfortable to hold. I do wish the base was just a tiny bit thicker, but I do imagine that is partially due to my grip issues and strength. Thankfully, Shadow Demon is also harness compatible! I really enjoyed going to town strapping down my wife with Shadow Demon~

Final Thoughts on Shadow Demon
When I think of the perfect dildo shape, I think of girthy-in-the-middle shafts, and Shadow Demon gives me exactly that. In fact, I think this is the first dildo that I have had explicit fantasies about using or having used on me. Typically, my fantasies are more about a person, a kink, an experience, etc. But something about Shadow Demon just does it for me!
Shadow Demon sits in a display case with a majority of our fantasy toys, and I’m not sure if it’s because it’s at eye level for me or what, but I find myself looking at it regularly. It’s a beautifully designed dildo and I’m really happy with the colors & pour style I selected. If I were to buy another Shadow Demon, I’d likely size down to a size Small, just for ease of use (stretching & warming up can take a while).
I would recommend Shadow Demon to monster fuckers of any experience level, though for beginners, I’d definitely recommend selecting an Extra Small or Small size to start. The texture gives a smooth ride, with pleasurable bumps and folds, and the coronal ridge feels amazing during repeated thrusting.
