The first time I laid eyes on Shunga Erotic Art sex toys was at a pleasure product trade show in Burbank. Their toys caught my eye from across the room, and I just had to investigate. They had 6 different vibrators and massagers in four beautiful colors, black, raspberry, pink, and purple, each accented with gold. Something about them just screamed sensual luxury to me, and they’ve sat in the back of my mind for ages since.
Unfortunately, none of the retailer partners I work with or am affiliated with stock Shunga sex toys 😭
I waited almost 3 years before finally, I decided to stop waiting and hoping for a retail partner to stock them and just buy one myself. In my defense, there was also an international move in that period, during which I was not buying sex toys and was actively purging my collection. I’m a patient person, when I have to be!
I was lucky to find some of the Shunga vibrators on sale at an online retailer here in the Netherlands though, and at a price point that was hard to resist. So, I treated myself to a vibrator I’ve had my eyes on for a while: Sanya by Shunga.

Meet Sanya Vibrator by Shunga
Shunga Erotic Art is a Canadian brand that makes vibrating sex toys and intimate cosmetic products, such as massage oil, lubricant, and bath & body products. Sanya, one of the massagers made by Shunga, is ergonomically designed to not only hit your g-spot, but also has a flexible shaft for better stimulation for more bodies. The silicone and ABS plastic vibrator is available in 4 colors and features a delicate texture over the shaft and handle. The g-spot massager has 3 button control with 10 different vibration functions, each with 5 available intensities and synchronized lighting.
The vibrator also boasts a lock function for traveling, is marketed as quiet and discreet, is rechargeable, and has an IPX7 rating, meaning it is fully waterproof submersible for up to ~3 ft / 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. On the lower 2 settings, the vibrations are rumbly, and as intensities increase, they begin to turn buzzy. Included in the box are a certificate of authenticity & warranty, quick start guide, charging cord, black satin storage bag, and a guide to all of their intimate moment products. The packaging is a luxuriously thick cardboard with shunga inspired art on the front, with product information listed in 6 different languages.
Sanya weights about 172g / 0.37lbs and has the following dimensions:
- Total Length: 7.28″ / 18.5cm
- Insertable Length: 4.53″ / 11.5cm
- Maximum Diameter: 1.49″ / 3.8cm
- Width: 1.96″ / 5cm

Charging and Cleaning Your Shunga Sanya Massager
I was really eager to use Shunga Sanya once it arrived, but I was good and let it fully charge up first. Plug the USB charging cord into a charging block or USB port, then insert the DC plug into the vibrator. The port is located on the shaft itself, on the very bottom, closest to the handle. The light on the side of the vibrator handle will flash while the device is charging, which should take about 2.5 hours. The manual does warn that the first time you charge the vibrator, it may take up to 3 hours instead. Once the vibrator is fully charged, the light will stop flashing and stay lit. At maximum power, a full charge should last about 1 hour or up to 3 hours at the lowest power.
Cleaning Sanya is a challenge. It should be easy enough to thoroughly wash the device with warm water and an unscented, antibacterial soap, however the texture of the vibrator is raised enough that I’m often finding flakes of dried lube or bodily fluids after the vibrator has fully dried, if I wasn’t careful while cleaning. To try to avoid this, I do spend a little extra time washing the vibrator, letting the soap fully lather on the device and using a small, soft toothbrush to clean the texture.

As with any silicone sex toy, you should give your toy a rinse before use to make sure there is no hair, lint, dust or anything else clinging to the surface. Once you’ve rinsed or washed it prior to using, grab your preferred water based lubricant and apply some to your anatomy and/or the device itself before insertion.
According to the manual, you should not use cleaners or lubricants that contain alcohol, petroleum, or acetone.
How to Use Shunga Sanya Vibrator
Once you’ve fully charged Sanya vibrator by Shunga Erotic Art, the fun can finally begin. On the inside of the handle, you’ll find three buttons in a row. The middle button is the power button, which you’ll press and hold for 3 seconds to power on the vibrator. The + and – buttons on either side of the power button will control the vibration intensity with a quick press of either. To switch between vibration modes, quickly press the middle power button again to start cycling through the 10 modes. Then, apply your favorite water based lube, and use externally to rub against your clitoris and/or vaginal opening, or go straight into inserting it.
Once you’re ready to power the vibrator off, simply press and hold the power button again for 3 seconds.

One of the things that I like about the Sanya massager is that the light, located above the power button, will change colors depending on which mode you’re on. There are 10 different light colors that correspond with the modes. How cute!
When it comes time for travel, you can easily lock the vibrator. Press and hold the power button for 8 seconds. You’ll feel 2 short vibrations and see the white light blink 4 times, indicating that the vibrator is now travel locked. To unlock it, you’ll repeat the process.
My Experiences with Shunga Sanya
When the package arrived with Shunga Sanya vibrator inside, I was ecstatic. I quickly opened the package, admired the vibrator, and plugged it in. I knew I was going to have a date with this g-spot vibrator as soon as possible, and I did not want to wait. While the vibrator charged, I admired the packaging and read through the manual. As someone who is often drawn to toys purely based on aesthetics, I didn’t even realize all of the selling points prior to purchasing. Can you blame me? This toy, like all the other massagers in Shunga’s line-up, is beautiful!

As soon as Sanya was done charging, I eagerly took it to bed, along with a bullet vibrator (just in case I needed both). I drizzled some of my JO H2O lube on it, pressed the power button and started by rubbing the device against my anatomy externally. The gentle texture gave Sanya an edge on some of the other g-spot vibrators in my collection, in that I loved feeling the gentle ribbing against my clitoris and labia, similarly to the VIM wand, but with a less raised texture. The vibrations felt nice, but the lowest setting was a bit too low for me for external use.
Turning the vibrator up to the 2nd level was a delicious tease externally. The handle of the vibrator was so comfortable to hold as I rocked my hips up and down, grinding my body against the vibrator. I didn’t even care that the intensity wasn’t enough to make me orgasm, because I was still loving the warm-up before finally, I couldn’t take it anymore and I needed to fill myself with Sanya.
The slightly bulbous head has a hint of a ridge and the natural curve of the device felt fantastic as I slid the vibrator into myself. Typically, I am not someone who does a lot of thrusting with vibrators. For me, vibrations tend to feel stimulating enough that I’m able to achieve orgasm. Sanya though? Sanya changed things. I love thrusting Sanya into myself. The vibrations on the lowest two intensities are gentle enough that I wasn’t overstimulated by the combination of thrusting and vibrating. For me, I couldn’t get enough of the two!

I even asked Cassie to use the vibrator on me, which I don’t often do with internal vibrators. Pairing the vibrations and thrusting with her fingers or mouth on my clitoris was euphoric. I was left panting, writhing in pleasure. I don’t even think Cassie turned the vibrations up on Sanya while she was using it on me. The shape, the low intensity vibrations, the thrusting… it all just worked together in a way that I was erupting with pleasure all over her face and our bed (thank goddesses for sex blankets).
The bottom of the shaft is bulbous and thick compared to the rest of the shaft, and though I did try to insert it all the way into myself vaginally, I never did achieve that. I didn’t really need to, though. The curved shaft and ridge on the head gave me ample g-spot stimulation at just the right depth and angle, but moved past my g-spot when I tried to insert the vibrator all the way. However, I did really enjoy that feeling of stretching open when I pushed the vibrator into myself as deep as I was able to take.
Each time that I use Sanya on myself, I find myself melting into the pleasure it gives me. It doesn’t matter if I’m using it on its own or with a second vibrator for external stimulation or with a dildo inserted and this device used externally, Sanya delivers. The texture adds a little extra stimulation that I found enjoyable without being distracting. The flexible shaft makes sure that the vibrator can adjust to my body easily and comfortable. And that handle? Fuck yes. An amazing design choice.

As someone who does have grip issues, handles are one of my favorite features when it comes to sex toys. Whether it’s a base that is big enough and thick enough for me to comfortably hold or a handle like the one at the end of Sanya, I’m becoming more and more firm on my stance that sex toys with handles are just superior. Though Sanya’s handle isn’t very thick or large, I found it made thrusting the dildo into myself much easier. The shape of the handle also meant I didn’t need to filly grip the base, which made my hands happy. It was easier on Cassie too, as she could just wrap her fingers around it while pumping the g-spot sex toy into me.
The handle also played a key role in allowing me to use the vibrator hands-free. Thanks to my thick thighs always touching, the handle fit between my thighs nicely and I was able to rock my hips against the vibrator while my thighs held it for me. The curved edges of the handle did press into my thighs, but I didn’t feel bothered by it and it wasn’t uncomfortable.
If I could make any change to the Sanya, I’d ask for longer battery life at higher intensities (tbh, I’d probably ask this about every vibrator I own). There were a few times that I was edging myself along, using Sanya, not realizing just how high/low the charge was, and the battery would die before I could finish. I don’t know if I’m the only vulva having person who likes to masturbate for hours on end, but I am such a person. Even starting with a bullet vibrator on my clit, then adding Sanya into the mix internally after a while, I’d still sometimes hit the end of its battery life before I could achieve orgasm.

Though I found myself loving Shunga Erotic Art’s Sanya massager, I have to admit that I’m baffled as to why I have never seen the brand in any of my brick & mortar shops or available from any of my retail partners. I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s due to the pricing inconsistencies that I found when I was ready to buy a Shunga vibrator. I found prices ranging from €22 up to €130 for the same model and color, and with a wide range of pricing like that, it’s not ideal for retailers to stock when it can be found so affordably elsewhere.
Pros:
- luxurious design
- built in handle for comfortable use during solo or couple play
- 10 vibration modes with 5 intensities each
- waterproof submersible
- gentle texture adds some extra stimulation
- easy to use internally or externally
- good for g-spot stimulation
- rechargeable
- body-safe silicone
- flexible shaft
- it’s so quiet!!
Cons:
- not everyone will love the texture
- I wish the battery life was longer at higher speeds
- texture requires a bit of extra attention when cleaning

My Final Verdict on Shunga Sanya Vibrator
Even with the few cons that I have for Shunga’s Sanya vibrator, I am a fan. It was lust at first sight, but elevated into far more once I purchased and used one of their massagers. The gentle vibrations on the lower settings were like a quiet purr that increased into a delightful buzz that shook my legs and made me tremble in pleasure. I’ve really enjoyed using this g-spot vibrator on myself and having it used on me, something I can’t say for most vibrators in my collection.
Because of the texture on Shunga intimate massagers, I don’t know that I would recommend this vibrator for everyone. I know some people are more or less sensitive to textures than I am, and some textures are annoying to people. I found them comfortable without being distracting! Texture aside, I do think that Sanya is a vibrator that many could enjoy.
I don’t have any direct links for where to buy Shunga vibrators in the US, but if you’re based in the EU, I recommend checking out Willie, Bol, Sinful, and/or Bdesired. I’m not affiliated with any of these retailers, though Willie and Bol have both been reliable and discreet when it comes to shipping.
