Maia Trippy Toys Shroomie Vibrator Review

Mushrooms are so popular. I don’t just mean the edible variety or even the psychedelic variety. I see mushrooms in art work, on lingerie, on shirts, on dishes, as decorative pillows… I could keep going. But where I don’t see a lot of mushrooms is in the sex toy industry. Well, until recently, that is! Maia Toys isn’t the first company to make a mushroom shaped vibrator, but Shroomie is an absolute must for mushroom lovers. It’s a cute amanita mushroom vibrator! How can you resist?

This discreet little vibrator has something that I think a lot of discreet vibes are missing: the ability to stand on its own without tipping over. Meaning you could put this on your bookshelf in your living room and nobody would realize it’s a vibrator. It just looks like a cute little mushroom standing there on its own.

I digress. I’m no interior designer. I’m an adult performer who has a bit of an obsession with sex toys!

Meet Shroomie

Maia Toys line, Trippy Toys, is here to take us on a trip with Shroomie, a mushroom shaped vibrator that measures in at only 4.5in/11.43cm tall. With a small, sturdy flat base, Shroomie stands on its own, letting that glorious little mushroom head pop up without worry of the vibrator falling over even as I semi-aggressively type this review (I’m trying to make my desk shake enough that the vibe falls over, but no matter how hard I push things, it’s staying erect).

Packed with 15 vibration functions, including 3 steady speeds, Shroomie is a waterproof, rechargeable vibrator. The wide, red cap is a pretty large surface area for vibrations, coming close to rivaling the Original Magic Wand in size. Aside from being a large surface area, Shroomie’s cap has another thing going for it: it’s plush and squishy.

The stem of the mushroom is a bit wider than your average bullet vibrator, and much like the head, it’s also got some important selling points I need to mention. First, the closer you get to the base of the vibrator, the wider the stem is, making it easier to hold for someone like me who struggles with grip issues. Second, the part of the stem closest to the head is incredibly flexible & bendable. It’s not just easier to hold for people with grip issues, it also is easier to position because of that flexibility between the head and the base. It’s got far more flexibility than most wand necks that I’ve tried, in fact.

Pros:

  • Silky smooth silicone has virtually zero drag
  • Waterproof submersible
  • Rechargeable
  • Storage pouch included in the box
  • Super-soft and squishable cap
  • Very discreet design
  • Wide contact point is similar to a wand, but with more gentle vibrations
  • Flat base keeps it standing while charging or displaying

Cons:

  • Not for people who prefer a more pin-pointed contact point
  • Not for people who want a lot of power
  • 40 minutes of play time seems a bit low IMO
  • Single button control means you have go through all 15 functions to get to your favorite

Care Instructions for Shroomie

Because Shroomie is waterproof submersible, cleaning it is a breeze! Wash it with a gentle, unscented soap and warm water, then allow it to dry completely before charging it or storing it. This is a vibrator, so don’t run it through the dishwasher and don’t boil it!

Included in the box is a magnetic charging cord. Plug the USB end into your charging port, then stand Shroomie up and connect the magnets. Charging should take about 2 hours, which will give you 40 minutes of play time. While charging, the lights on the buttons will flash. Once fully charged, the lights will go steady.

Make sure that you use water-based lubricant with Shroomie! You wouldn’t want to damage that plush mushroom cap.

How to Use

Shroomie has two buttons: a power button on top, and a button for flipping between intensities on the bottom. Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds to power on the vibe. It will vibrate once to let you know it’s on, then press the bottom button to start the vibrations. To cycle between vibration modes, press the bottom button. And yes, you do have to press it 15 times to get back to your preferred function.

The wide surface area of Shroomie‘s cap means that anywhere you might enjoy placing a wand, you’re likely going to enjoy placing that cap. Shroomie is less powerful than a wand, but the head is almost as wide as OMW & most other standard size wands. Try it out on your various erogenous zones and see where you like it most!

Personally, I liked to get it on its side to get the slight curve of the cap against my clitoris. I typically prefer a more pin-pointed surface area for my clitoral vibrators, and that curve where the cap turns to meet the stem was the closest point I could find on the vibe that worked for me.

The flexibility of the stem also means you can hold the stem while straddling the cap and grinding against it. If you’re really brave, you can even follow along with Phallophile Reviews‘ idea of fully inserting this vibrator, as if it were a pussy plug. The dramatic cut between cap and stem is a bit too extreme for me to want to try this, as I tend to find the feeling of those leaving my body to be quite uncomfortable. If you are going to try to insert this vibe, please only do so vaginally. This is not an anal friendly vibrator!

When you’re ready to turn off Shroomie, simply press & hold the power button for 3 seconds.

My Experiences with Shroomie

By the time Shroomie was fully charged and ready to go, I was too. I was really worked up and ready to orgasm. So when it took me damn near 40 minutes to finally achieve orgasm using Shroomie, I was a bit frustrated. Sure this mushroom vibrator is cute as hell, but power level 1 wasn’t enough. Power level 2 still wasn’t enough. Hell, even power level 3 wasn’t enough for me. The surface area of Shroomie just doesn’t vibe well with my personal preferences, and that’s ok!

Despite their popularity, I’m not the person who reaches for a wand to masturbate. And the size and shape of Shroomie’s cap is such that it is quite similar to a wand. It has very little opportunity for pin-pointed pleasure, and for me that’s not ideal. But ever the diligent reviewer, I didn’t let my personal preferences hold me back. So I tried again.

Maia Toys did a beautiful job designing Shroomie, but my gosh. What I wouldn’t give for more intensity! The 3 power levels just weren’t quite enough for me no matter how many times I tried. I think if Maia was able to give it a boost in power, I might forego saying that I don’t like wide surface contact points! Seriously. The plush, squishy head made a big difference to me in comparison to a wand. I could push it against myself as hard as I needed, rocking my hips against it, and my god. It was so comfortable!

Holding Shroomie while masturbating was also surprisingly comfortable. As someone who has grip issues, the slightly bulbous shape of the bottom of the stem was really easy for me to hold onto. And the flexible neck meant that I could push the head against my anatomy as hard as I wanted/needed.

Final Thoughts on Maia Toys Shroomie

Though I didn’t find Shroomie to be the one for me, there’s a lot about it that I can appreciate! The soft, squishy cap is really quite nice for rubbing against, the flexible neck makes it really easy to press against me just right, the stem is really comfortable for me to hold. I love that it can stand up on without falling over and that it’s waterproof submersible so you can play with it in the bath or shower. I do wish it had more power, though.

I think that Shroomie would be a better fit for someone who liked the wider surface area contact point or someone isn’t as power hungry. It’s not the weakest toy I’ve tried, but the “high intensity” marketing claims feel a bit exaggerated to me. This vibrator would best suit someone who likes the surface area of a wand but finds wands to be too much power for them.

Shroomie would make for an excellent gift, as it is cute af and it’s quite discreet. It’d be hard to say “no thanks” to this cute little vibe!
